Exoplanets App
Context
A week long project, during which I mainly trained my designing skills in Figma. I was tasked with inventing any kind of concept app and then utilize datasets to create a convincing prototype for it.
Process
First, I had to come up with a concept for the prototype. I was always intrigued by space and the endless knowledge hidden within it. I found a dataset on Kaggle containing information about various exoplanets that might provide a livable environment for humans. So, I decided to center the concept around the idea of learning about these planets so users can choose where they would like to hypothetically settle in the future.

Excerpt from the data I used
With the concept defined, I created a lo-fi design to choose the right colors and layout for the app.

Lo-fi version of the app
Next, I started experimenting with My Mock Data plugin in Figma. Thanks to this tool, I could quickly create a hi-fi version filled with all relevant data to make the prototype look like the final product. Instead of creating all content manually one by one, I used the plugin to duplicate components and fill them with data from the dataset.

Planet cards populated with information from the dataset
Since the dataset I found did not contain all of the information I desired, I used ChatGPT to create descriptions and images for each of the planets.

Result
Thanks to datasets, I managed to create a convincing prototype of a concept app in just one week. Additionally, I learned how to generate mock data through AI that can be also used to populate a prototype with placeholder information, which allowed me to dedicate more time to the design and the user flow.
